system bug

Under the reign of late stage capitalism extraction processes become ubiquitous, and technofascism dictates new ways of production, new forms of labour and resources. Power structures mine them on all levels – especially digitally, with the help of technology produced by ideologies of extraction and user incarceration. Data is new gold, attention is new dollar. The more time we spend on devices, designed to capture and modulate our being – the more money is earned by those who introduced that technology in the first place.

Technology is entering our body – mediating our brain capacities, our attention span, our dopamine production – we are paying with our carnality for quick pleasures of digital incarceration.

In this work I position the player as both subject and resource.I want to imagine a machine that does not disguise itself for what it’s not – an arcade where control panel is enmeshed with our own organicity, our bodies – it’s decaying the same way we are, yet the data it mines from our bodies is gonna be turned into profit by those, who own all machines. In order to start you insert your finger into a weird hole (is it a vegetable or a human?), to modulate parameters and jump between layers you have to touch a dead fish. The pulsemeter attached to your other hand switches videos according to your heartbeat. Your body – the vulnerability of meat – powers the machine and the extraction is inseparable from an ability to experience the game.

Technology extracting your biodata becomes transparent – it is exposed, tangled with decay and mortality. The fish rots as the machine runs — the body ages as the loop repeats.

Foregrounding interaction, biofeedback and bodily return, the project invites reflection on the architectures of power that incarcerate our bodies, time and attention. The experiment is one of awareness — to feel the extraction as you play, to see your own body not only as a user, but through the lens of those who modulate it as resource, and perhaps to reclaim the act of control – or to realize that it may be impossible under the current system.
